Amanda Brooks lives and works in a converted church in Devon. Her work is inspired by the countryside around her and the daily dog walks where she often sees and finds small, wonderful birds, animals and plants to draw and paint.
The paintings often start as sketches in a journal then become watercolours, or she uses Dutch gold leaf on boards with acrylic, oils or egg tempera.
“I have a real love and appreciation of many of the small things that go unnoticed; a half-hidden wren hopping around in the hedge, or lichen on a twig. Birds with their uplifting singing (even if it is establishing territory!) and incredible nests have become a real source of joy and optimism for me and I seek to pass that on through my paintings.”
