The aim in my ceramics is to make sculpturally functional work that is both approachable and tactile. I achieve this by allowing a level of chance and spontaneity in the making and glazing process. The forms I create are inspired by many years of foraging on the beach as a child with pebbles featuring prominently in my designs. The edges of the vessels and the glazing is inspired by the bold and calm movement of the waves. I create this by using traditional Japanese brushes that soak up lots of glaze and remain loose yet mindful in their application. This body of work is all hand built and finished with a large paddle to create some irregularity. These are distinctive stand alone pieces but are also created to be entirely functional.
