Our featured Artist Member for April is Bryony Rich

Bryony grew up playing in her father’s pottery studio and making pots became second nature at a very early age. After school she studied at Carmarthen CCTA Art College, specialising in fashion and textiles. This interest took her travelling to Sri Lanka and Thailand visiting ceramic and silk painting workshops.

What inspires your work?

I’m surrounded by inspiration living in beautiful Pembrokeshire half way between the mountains and the sea. If I’m not in the workshop you can find me enjoying the outside, loving nature and incomplete awe of all the wonders it has to offer, full of colours and textures. Just taking a little time instillness shows me endless possibilities and fills me with ideas and curiosity.

Describe your workspace.

My open workshop studio has an adjoining small gallery where visitors can watch me at work.Normally full from floor to ceiling with work in every stage. It is a living environment of clay – from earth to artOenr

What is your favourite piece or design you have made?

.

Some of my favourite work and most fun to create is the copper oxide matt lustre Raku vessels. This Japanese firing is a collaboration of elements: earth, fire, oxygen and water creating a semi-uncontrollable chemical reaction leaving you with a unique piece of work each time with the exception of the occasional full combustion.

Also a lover of food and a one-time chef, my oven to tableware range has a dedicated following and Ilove making it. This is particularly great as it is a means to shared eating, cooking and time spent withfamily and friends.

Who has influenced & inspired you?

My primary inspiration is my Father Simon Rich whose mentorship provided me with an immense foundation of knowledge. His incredible skill and technical versatility taught me to approach clay with both precision and adaptability, ensuring a deep understanding of the medium’s limitless possibilities.
