Nawal taught the group how to create a landscape picture using different sections of fabric. This allowed participants to use their imaginations and experiment with colour and texture while learning a new skill.
The group could select different colours and textures from a range of fabrics supplied by Nawal. They were able to sew the picture together and add embellishments for decoration. The final pieces were mounted at the end of the session.
The atmosphere was friendly and the group worked hard to create beautiful and imaginative pictures.
“Hand stitching is very soothing.”

“The group really enjoyed the sessions. This was something they hadn’t tried before. It helped to build their confidence.”
– Project Worker, the Leeson Centre
The Leeson Centre was one of several PSS Wellbeing Centres in South Liverpool and Liverpool City Centre. It provided recovery-focused mental health support to people experiencing the challenges of living with anxiety, depression and other forms of emotional distress.*
PSS believe that everyone is creative and that creativity can play a powerful role in a person’s mental health and wellbeing; individuals are invited to attend craft courses to learn new techniques, strategies and skills with support from others.
* The Leeson Centre sadly closed in 2017 due to funding cuts.
