During Christine’s residency at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, she used simple printing techniques and bright colours with local flowers and leaves to bring the natural world to the bedside of patients on acute care wards, to create a small and beautiful individual gardens.
“At the very least this project offers interaction and when it works to its greatest effect it can bring a personality to the forefront that was being lost as the patient was becoming more withdrawn. It also improves patient and carer experience, with family always very impressed to know that such care is being taken of their relative… I can’t impress on you enough the benefits to our patients that this kind of interaction can provide.”

Christine created a collage after her 10 week residency, which has been temporarily installed on the old Royal Liverpool University Hospital and will be moved across to the new hospital upon completion.

“The final artwork seeks to capture the positive energy and feelings of well-being which were produced during the workshops.
The cycle of life is precious, fragile, ephemeral and always changing. We are all connected in this circle and, as individuals who live in communities, we need to look after each other and share our stories. This artwork conveys that and the importance of still seeing beauty in all the stages of our life.
I would like to thank all the patients who have touched me in different ways and who have helped me to create this piece that I am honoured to dedicate to them.”
