The Life Rooms 2022/23: Sally-Anne Thompson

Bootle

4 October – 15 November 2022

Southport

16 January – 20 February 2023

Sally-Anne Thompson led two sets of 6 x workshops each at Life Rooms Bootle and Southport in 2022/23. At Life Rooms Bootle she worked with students from the neighbouring Hugh Baird College.

At each venue, Sally-Anne taught participants a variety of textile and embroidery techniques. Participants made several practical and decorative items, including a needle case decorated with traditional and contemporary embroidery stitches; a pin cushion in repurposed china cups; and a modern day ‘sampler’ of stitches in an embroidery hoop.

The students from Hugh Baird were able to incorporate the techniques into projects as part of their college studies.

“I’ve never done sewing before, I was a nervous wreck before I came here, but now I can do all sorts.”

– Life Rooms Southport participant

“I used to make little things years ago, it’s nice to make things yourself, and stitching things is so relaxing.”

– Life Rooms Southport participant

“These sessions are so good, you forget about the outside world, and everyone opens up to one another more easily when they are making things together.”

– Life Rooms Pathway Advisor

“The two quite different venues / groups have brought new teaching and creative experiences as a maker and have been a joy to work on!”

– Sally-Anne Thompson
