Testimonials – Talks & Guided Visits

Our guided visits are curated by Bdc Assistant Director Fran Gill-Smith, Bdc trustee and printmaker Gill Curry and local jeweller Linda Jones. This includes visits to other venues to see new exhibitions, maker studios or places of cultural interest, often supported by curator and maker talks. Our intention is to introduce our Friends of the Bdc, regular attendees and new audiences to other craft related events as well as the opportunity to visit new venues and the wider arts scene.

Makers are the focus of our work at Bdc and we believe there is nothing more inspiring than the opportunity to hear a maker talk about their work and studio practice, or give a demonstration. Our programme of maker talks animate the work we display and offers a greater level of appreciation and understanding of the materials, processes, skills and technologies of contemporary craft.

“A couple of times a year I am privileged to join Bdc friends and supporters on forays into the world of creativity. The Hepworth is an impressive building full of delights, inside and out. We had a tour from a potter whose enthusiasm was infectious. It’s the best way to concentrate on specific pieces, to take time to look and to learn about the artists and their pots. I had a fine day, thank you.”

– Anna

“The trip to The Hepworth and The Yorkshire Sculpture Park with the BDC was a real treat. It was a full day of creative talk, the soaking up of ideas, and the catching up with good friends. A wonderful day to remember.”

– Ruth

– Jess

“Once again the cultural visit organised by the Bdc was a very enjoyable and well-attended event. We were hosted by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable curator who encouraged us to look, and look again at the gallery’s acquisitions.”

– Patricia
