Amy Flynn – WGC 2022 Spotlight Exhibition

From Saturday 29 October 2022

Medal designer for the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022

We are delighted to showcase the work of local jeweller Amy Flynn at the Bdc, who has been selected as the medal designer for the World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022. Bluecoat Display Centre partnered with the local organising committee to lead the call-out to craft makers across the Liverpool City Region for this exciting opportunity – scroll down to find out more about WGC Liverpool 2022.

Amy’s first inspiration came from the stained glass of the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral – a memory from a school trip long ago that stuck with her. Also incorporated as part of the design are fragmented shapes using maps and satellite images of Liverpool from above, and textures taken by hand in wax from locations around Liverpool – the Liver Building, M&S Bank Arena and Liverpool Waterfront – that will be cast into metal.

“I had such a strong memory from visiting the Metropolitan Cathedral as a younger child, and I remember seeing the kaleidoscopic effect of the stained glass. In designing this medal, I was inspired by that sense of fragmentation, parts that are not necessarily so impressive individually, but when brought together make something really special.” – Amy Flynn

Amy will be showing a selection of her jewellery designs.

World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022

29 Oct – 06 Nov 2022

Between 29 October – 06 November 2022 the city of Liverpool is to host the prestigious World Gymnastics Championships at the M&S Bank Arena.

Delivered by the local organising committee within Liverpool City Council and in partnership with UK Sport and British Gymnastics, over 550 gymnasts from 75 countries are expected to compete; making it one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in the city.

A key element of any major championships is the medals the winners receive and Bluecoat Display Centre have been delighted to partner with the local organising committee to lead the call-out to craft makers across the Liverpool City Region for this exciting opportunity.

Amy Flynn is a Wirral-based jeweller and took her inspiration from the streets of the city and Liverpool’s rich cultural heritage. The medals will be awarded to the best gymnasts from around the globe this October.

The World Gymnastics Championships Liverpool 2022 will be an Olympic qualifying event for the Paris 2024 games and will be one of the largest international sporting events ever to be held in the city. To find out more and get your tickets, visit 2022worldgymnastics.com
