We are delighted to announce our next guided visit to Shakespeare North Playhouse followed by a visit to the New Acquisitions display at The Walker Art Gallery. We will provide the minibus to take us to both venues.
We will be led on a deep dive tour through the Shakespeare Playhouse, giving an exciting glimpse into this beautiful new venue which recently won the accolade of Theatre Building of the Year Award 2023. We will hear about the history and inspiration behind the space with the opportunity to find out more about the building. The hour-long tour will include learning about Prescot and its links to Shakespeare, exploring the Sir Ken Dodd Performance Garden, Cockpit Theatre, Learning Centre, Exhibition Gallery and Community Space.
*There will be the opportunity to have lunch in the cafe before heading back to the minibus. (Please note, lunch is not included in the price of the ticket)
Back on the minibus, we will drive to The Walker Art Gallery to hear Nicola Scott, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, speak about the Bluecoat Display Centre’s recent contemporary craft commissions. The five new commissions have recently been presented to the Walker’s Collection in Peter Urquhart’s memory. Peter was Chairman at Bdc for many years and these works were commissioned through a generous gift from his family. Having acquired many pieces from the Bdc over the years, Peter’s family gifted his collection back to us following his death in 2019. This was with a view to it being sold and the monies raised being awarded to benefit local makers. The subsequent auction of Peter’s collection enabled us to commission five selected makers to each produce a new piece of work. This is an ideal opportunity to see and hear about the works which resulted from the Urquhart Bequest which include pieces made by Ruth Ball (silver), Hugh Miller (furniture), Attila Olah (ceramics), Verity Pulford (glass) and Michael Brennand-Wood (mixed media).
