Throughout my childhood, I often collected shards of pottery and stones, drawn to their abstract beauty of unusual shapes, patterns, and textures. The recent rediscovery of my childhood collection has revived this passion, evoking a renewed drive for discovery and igniting my curiosity about the narratives behind each object. This direction of enquiry has naturally become the source of inspiration within my craft practice, embracing foraged materials and applied processes. Working primarily with hand techniques such as fabric dyeing, layering, and hand stitch, I allow meditative processes to shape the composition and outcome of each piece. These methods foster an intimate connection with the material, where each colour, mark, and thread reflect a considered, tactile engagement.
The inclusion of pottery shards in my work also underscores the importance of sustainability and the transformative power of repair; items considered ‘broken’ are retrieved from waste and transformed into reinterpreted creations that breathe new life into the old and disregarded.
