Bronwen Gwillim
Material: Jewellery | Location: South Wales
Bronwen makes statement, one-off pieces of wearable art jewellery from waste plastic. She collects, reuses and upcycles beach plastic from the beaches where she lives on the Pembrokeshire coast.
Bronwen cuts, shapes and forms it by hand and combine with industrial waste plastic, recycled silver and resins (into which she recycles her own waste plastic dust.) She aims to keep her carbon footprint low, using mostly reclaimed materials and hand tools. ‘I aim to throw very little away.’
Bronwen imbues these soulless materials with a natural, weather-worn character by working their surfaces till their colours soften and they feel natural in the hand. She uses shapes and textures inspired by the sea and her walks on the foreshore at the bottom of her garden.
