I have been particularly influenced by the city environment which has been a big inspiration for most of my life. I was born, raised and still live in South East London.
The human figure has also consistently been an inspiration for my work in many ways, not just in how I describe pieces but how they relate to each other like members of the same family by use of form and surface.
Other influences include traditional and historical pots from both Europe and the Far East.
The thrown vessel allows me to work in a spontaneous, intuitive way, keeping the soft clay qualities of a freshly thrown piece and adding contrasting details. Over the years I have refined my work and simplified the finished surface, working mainly with a monochrome palette.
