My work attempts to heighten the viewer’s sensory perceptions and highlight more conceptual elements within ceramics. I work in a mixture of black earthenware and white stoneware, as well as deep red stoneware clay. The work comprises functional tableware and exhibition installation pieces. It is usually unglazed and heavily textured, creating a uniquely tactile piece. Its rough finish and tones have an austerity yet a natural sumptuousness.
My new collection comprises large scale installations which dramatize their space, inspired by 17th Century Dutch still life painting. Each vessel is a metaphor for human consciousness. I use Memento mori and Vantias themes as a starting point, which are then translated into an engaging ceramic format.
