John Egan
Material: Woodwork | Location: North Wales
"My name is John Egan, and I live on the windy coast of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales. Growing up here has given me a deep appreciation for nature and the raw materials around me, especially wood. This fascination led me to create objects that are honest to the material—crafted to last for generations.
I use locally sourced timber only, embracing itsnatural limitations as both a challenge and inspiration. My work blends traditional craft skills with a modern curiosity, turning overlooked pieces of wood into tactile, cherished objects. The joy lies in discovering unexpected colours, burrs, and swirls beneath the surface.
Every piece I create, when bought and cared for, captures carbon (a reverse form of coal mining, if you like) preserving both the beauty of wood and the CO₂ within. These objects are made to be touched, used, and passed down, growing richer with time.”
