My work is strongly influenced by post war mid-century modern art and design. I am particularly drawn to the stylistic qualities of the era; the use of geometric shapes, clean lines, bright hues and the simple direct flatness that mid-century modern design held at its core. I want my work to embrace these graphic qualities. I typically prefer to use bold lines and colour combinations as I want the things I make to stand out in a visually crowded environment. I almost always begin a design by drawing first in ink or creating a paper collage before transferring to a digital context. My influences are wide ranging from modernist ceramics and mid century jewellery (of which I am an avid collector) to the paintings of Le Corbusier and Fernand Leger, the textiles of Lucienne Day and the sculptures of Isamu Noguchi, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore.
