"I make pots. Pots to be used, pots to be looked at and most of all pots to be enjoyed. A variety of different voices inform my work, from East to West, Korea to Marshall, earth to sky, Karatsu to Mackenzie. I hope that the combination of these influences and personal endeavour lead to pieces of work that have an individuality and a subtle beauty that only clay can allow to happen."
Tim sets up situations to allow variation and serendipitous events to happen within the kiln. This starts with adding rogue elements such as raw, unrefined local clay into his previously prepared clay bodies and continues with the placement of specific pots in specific zones within the kiln. These zones catch the brunt and force of the flames as they enter and flow around the kiln. Combining all these factors helps to give the pieces their individuality and character.
