In 2021 Bdc hosted an auction of Peter Urquhart’s collection of contemporary craft on behalf of his family. Peter was Chairman of the Bdc’s Board of Trustees from 2001 until 2018: over that time, he was an invaluable support to our organisation and played a pivotal role in the Display Centre achieving charitable status in 2010. He was a great champion for our represented makers – always attending preview and maker events, keen to know about the makers and their practice, and often buying work as a result of meeting and talking to them. Peter’s collection featured a range of work he acquired from the Bdc over a number of years.
The monies raised from the auction have been used to commission five local makers to create a piece each which will be donated to the Walker Art Gallery’s permanent decorative arts collection in Peter’s name: Ruth Ball, Michael Brennand-Wood, Hugh Miller, Attila Olah and Verity Pulford.
Before the pieces move to their new home, we are delighted to showcase them at the Bdc, and to continue to celebrate Peter’s passion and support for contemporary craft.
